Description

1871 Indian Princess Dollar in Copper
Judd-1123, PR65 Red and Brown
None Offered in Auction in Ten Years

1871 $1 Standard Silver Dollar, Judd-1123, Pollock-1259, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. William Barber's adaptation of a Longacre design. The obverse depicts an Indian princess facing left, date below, no stars. The reverse has 1 DOLLAR in the center, surrounded by an agricultural wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This pattern is remarkably scarce with few recent auction appearances. The last record we can find for a Judd-1123 was in 2003. The USPatterns website states "at least 4 known." It appears four may be the highest number known. The devices are fully struck on each side, and we see no mentionable contact marks. The surfaces have evenly mellowed with some underlying red still evident, the brightest traces of red is apparent surrounding the devices. (PCGS# 71382)
