Finest Known 1871 Three Cent Silver Proof Pattern, Judd-10471871 3C Three Cent Silver, Judd-1047, Pollock-1181, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown NGC. Obverse and reverse both have the same design used to coin regular issue 1871 silver three-cent pieces. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This example seems fully impressed, with lovely purple-rose and copper-brown colors, and no evidence of mishandling. Each side shows a sprinkling of tiny carbon specks. Only three examples of this variety have been graded, by the two major services together, and this coin is the only one certified as a Gem, with none finer. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (7/03).
