1871 50C Half Dollar, Judd-1117, Pollock-1253, R.7, PR65 ...
Extremely Rare Gem Proof 1871 Half Dollar Pattern, Judd-11171871 50C Half Dollar, Judd-1117, Pollock-1253, R.7, PR65 Brown NGC. The obverse and reverse designs are the same as those of the regular issue 1871 half dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The so-called regular dies trial piece. These are believed to have been deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete off-metal sets, as opposed to being true die trials. Fewer than a half dozen are known. The presently offered Gem displays fully struck, smooth, sea-green surfaces, which seem entirely free of contact or handling marks. There are only a few tiny traces of carbon. A lovely and very rare pattern piece. (#61376) (PCGS# 61376)
