Interesting 1871 Pattern Nickel With a Planchet Lamination1871 5C Five Cents, Judd-1052, Pollock-1186, R.7, PR65 Cameo, Lamination on Reverse, PCGS. The obverse repeats a familiar pattern with the devices closely resembling that on the adopted Three Cent Nickel, and the reverse has a backward V in the center with CENTS below, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck on a regular sized planchet and struck in aluminum with a plain edge. An interesting planchet lamination has occurred on the lower reverse at 7 o'clock, this being highly unusual for any pattern issue. Still, this is a spectacular aluminum pattern that is as bright as the day it was minted with no signs of oxidation on either side. A rare opportunity for the pattern specialist.(#61311) (PCGS# 61311)
