Description:
Toned 1871 Pattern Five Cents, Struck in Copper
1871 5C Five Cents, Judd-1051, Pollock-1185, R.5, PR64 Brown PCGS. The obverse design resembles that used on regular issue 1871 Three Cent Nickels with a bust of Liberty facing left, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery, and the date below. The denomination V CENTS is centered within a laurel wreath on the reverse. Struck in copper with a plain edge. The otherwise richly toned, copper-brown surfaces reveal lovely, multicolored undertones as the coin turns into the light. A sharply struck coin with slightly muted mirrors.
