Description:
Popular 1873 Trade Dollar Pattern
Judd-1276, PR64
1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1276, Pollock-1418, R.4, PR64 NGC.
Design.
A coronet inscribed LIBERTY is surrounded by 13 stars with the date below. The reverse has the statutory legend around a wreath with the denomination and technical data inside, the bottom of the wreath is tied by a ribbon with IN GOD WE TRUST. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.

Commentary.
As a group, most patterns are much rarer than this variety. At least 100 different examples are known. The Mint marketed six-piece pattern Trade dollar sets in 1873, the sets including Judd-1276. Also included were Judd-1281, 1293, 1310, 1315, and 1322.

Physical Description.
Deep gray-gold toning masks the full mirrors on each side of this lovely Choice proof. The reverse is quite a bit brighter than the obverse. Both sides exhibit mild cameo contrast, and the devices are sharply detailed. Minor hairlines and contact marks prevent a higher grade. NGC Census: 3 in PR64, 7 finer. PCGS Population: 8 in PR64, 8 finer (12/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Stack's (9/1989), lot 1424.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two.

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
