Design. The obverse is centered around a bust of Liberty facing left, with 13 stars at the border and the date below. Liberty wears a beaded coronet inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse features the denomination TRADE DOLLAR and the specifications 420 GRAINS and 900 FINE, enclosed by an olive wreath. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is above, with IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll at the base of the wreath. Struck in silver with a plain edge.
Commentary. USPatterns.com reports examples of Judd-1277 were sold to collectors as part of six-piece pattern Trade dollar sets for $30 per set. Experts estimate fewer than one dozen specimens survive. NGC Census: 1 in PR61, 3 finer. PCGS Population: None in PR61, 6 finer (12/08).
Physical Description. The surfaces are enhanced by lovely violet and red-gold toning, with a strong strike and minimal handling marks for the grade.
