Bailly-Designed 1873 Trade Dollar, Gem Cameo, Judd-12811873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1281, Pollock-1423, R.4, PR65 Cameo PCGS. The obverse, designed by J. A. Bailly, features a coiled hair bust of Liberty facing left. The reverse mimics the 'Amazonian' pattern silver dollar save for a reduction in the size of the eagle and the addition of the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above and the weight and fineness below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Six-piece sets were sold by the Mint for $30, and consisted of silver, copper, and aluminum coins with both plain and reeded edges. Brilliant throughout, the fields are deeply mirrored and very flashy with excellent mint frost on the devices, yielding a strong cameo contrast on each side. One of the finest examples known.
