Description:
Lovely 1873 Indian Princess Trade Dollar
Judd-1312, PR65 Brown
1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1312, Pollock-1455, Low R.7, PR65 Brown NGC.
Design.
A Trade dollar design struck in the year of its regular issue debut that shows Liberty seated on the obverse wearing an Indian headdress, Liberty pole and cap in her right hand, left hand resting on a globe, and conjoined flags behind. The reverse has a small eagle in the upper half with the weight and fineness below and the statutory legends on scrolls both above and below. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.

Commentary.
Examples of this pattern design in silver were marketed as part of six-piece pattern Trade dollar sets in 1873. However, there was no such market for the copper examples, and today only about 10 pieces are known.

Physical Description.
An impressive Gem proof with mildly reflective fields and lustrous devices beneath olive-brown and iridescent patina. Both sides have boldly defined design elements. Exceptional aesthetic appeal will delight the connoisseur. NGC Census: two in 65 Red and Brown, one in 65 Brown (this piece) (11/08). PCGS Population: one PR60 Red and Brown, one PR64 Red. Five pieces total.

Provenance.
Ex: Stack's private treaty (12/1987).
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two. (PCGS# 61598)
