Description:
Judd-1392 1875 Sailor Head Twenty Cent
PR63, William Barber Design
1875 20C Sailor Head Twenty Cents, Judd-1392, Pollock-1535, Low R.6, PR63 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Denali Collection. Fashioned by William Barber and nicknamed the Sailor Head design; nearly identical to that of certain 1875 half eagle and eagle patterns. A coronet inscribed LIBERTY adorns a head of Liberty, her hair tied back with a ribbon. The reverse shows a shield with 20, CENTS at the lower border. Arrows, leaves, and a glory of rays adorn the shield. The periphery reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Struck in silver with a plain edge. This brilliant representative exhibits moderate white-on-black contrast, though to a degree insufficient for a Cameo designation. The strike is needle-sharp, and the fields are only mildly subdued. A few light field hairlines account for the grade.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2013), lot 6723. (PCGS# 61699)
