Description

1875 Twenty Cent Pattern in Copper
Judd-1404, Brightly Reflective PR66 Brown
Liberty by the Seashore Design

1875 20C Twenty Cents, Judd-1404, Pollock-1547, High R.6, PR66 Brown NGC. The obverse depicts a representation of Liberty seated by the seashore with thirteen stars around the border and the date 1875 below. A rigged steamship is seen in the background. On the reverse, the denomination 20 CENTS is encircled by an olive wreath. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the border. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This is a fabulous example of this popular twenty cent pattern. The fields are bright and reflect strongly through the color on each side. Unlike what one would expect from a copper striking, the surfaces here are turquoise with a dash of red at the top of the obverse and bottom of the reverse. A few minor planchet imperfections can be seen with a loupe, but these in no way impair this pattern's overall beauty. (PCGS# 61711)

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
