Description:
Important 1875 Copper
Half Dollar, Judd-1418
PR64 Red Cameo
1875 50C Half Dollar, Judd-1418, Pollock-1561, R.7, PR64 Red Cameo NGC.
Design.
Struck from the regular dies for the 1875 half dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.

Commentary.
The complete set of off-metal pieces from the regular coinage series for 1875 includes 14 coins from the cent to the double eagle in copper, and 14 more in aluminum. They are all extremely rare, and any attempt to form a complete set would probably take a lifetime. David Queller collected pattern coins for 40 years, and only obtained five of the 28 possible pieces.

Physical Description.
An amazing, fully brilliant red proof that just misses the Gem grade level, although we are not certain why. The surfaces are deeply mirrored with frosty and boldly detailed devices. A few faint specks in the right obverse field are the only blemishes. NGC Census: NGC has certified only two examples -- this PR64 Red Cameo, and a PR65 Red Cameo. PCGS Population: Two coins total, one grading PR64 Red and one grading PR65 Red (12/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Lester Merkin (2/1971), lot 910.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two.
