Gem 1876 Sailor Head Dollar in Copper, Judd-14651876 $1 Sailor Head Dollar, Judd-1465, Pollock-1616, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown NGC. The obverse depicts William Barber's Sailor Head, here with beads on the coronet and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST centered across the upper border. The reverse displays a wreath that divides the statutory legends. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. According to uspatterns.com, the two silver examples (Judd-1464) were struck on Trade dollar planchets, and approximately six examples of Judd-1465 are known. The present Gem is beautifully toned in electric-blue and ruby-red across the obverse field, with a powder-blue and olive portrait. The reverse is orange-gold and aquamarine. This intricately struck piece is well preserved, but can be identified by a small obverse spot at 5 o'clock.
