1878 Judd-1550A Morgan Dollar, Proof Details1878 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1550A, Pollock-1723, Low R.6--Improperly Cleaned, Lacquered--NCS. Proof Details. The obverse is virtually that of the adopted design save that the bust point is nearer to star 1, while the reverse differs primarily by having three olive leaves to the lower left of the eagle, rather than a cluster as seen on the regular issue dies. This design lacks the notches on the undersides of the wings. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.
A fully defined example of this popular Morgan dollar pattern with deeply mirrored fields, and satiny devices. Both sides are light silver-gray with splashes of iridescent toning from the lacquer.
