Description

Lovely 1879 Washlady Quarter in Silver, Judd-1590

1879 25C Washlady Quarter Dollar, Judd-1590, Pollock-1783, High R.6, PR65 Cameo PCGS. Barber's "Washlady" design. The head of Liberty faces left with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST above and 1879 below. She is wearing a headband inscribed LIBERTY. The headband is ornamented with ears of wheat, cotton leaves, and bolls. There are 13 stars at the border arranged 7 left and 6 right. This is paired with a reverse that has an erect eagle with spread wings holding an olive branch in its right talon and three arrows in its left. Above is the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, below is the denomination QUAR. DOLLAR. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The outer two thirds of each side is layered in rich steel-blue and golden-brown toning. Minor softness is noted on the hair above the ear and on the eagle's legs. A beautifully patinated example of this popular pattern design. (PCGS# 61967)
