Description

1879 Judd-1602 'Morgan Half Dollar'
Copper, PR66 Red and Brown

1879 50C Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1602, Pollock-1797, R.7, PR66 Red and Brown NGC. CAC. The obverse is similar to that used on regular issue 1879 Morgan dollars. The reverse depicts an eagle with spread wings perched atop an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the top, the denomination HALF DOLLAR is at the bottom, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST arches around and below the eagle's portrait. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Olive-gold and blue-green tints grace this well-preserved example. The fields have a great gleam, and frosty accents on the devices lend a hint of contrast. Great eye appeal for this very rare issue with a popular obverse motif. (NGC ID# 2AGT, PCGS# 71980)
