Description:
Popular 1881 Liberty Nickel Prototype in Copper, Judd-1672
1881 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1672, Pollock-1873, R.6-7, PR30 ANACS. A pattern striking for the Liberty Nickel with the central figure of Liberty surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA rather than stars as on the adopted design. On the reverse, a large V is encircled by a wreath of corn, wheat, and cotton. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This specimen appears to have been carried as a pocket piece or even circulated for several years. Well balanced chocolate-brown surfaces have lost their original proof qualities and show a sizable carbon spot on the reverse border at 1 o'clock. (PCGS# 62068)
