Description:
Pristine 1883 Liberty Head Five Cent
Judd-1710, PR67 Cameo
1883 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1710, Pollock-1914, R.5, PR67 Cameo NGC.
Design.
The obverse is the regular-issue Liberty Head nickel. The reverse is the traditional wreath of corn, cotton, maple, and wheat, with 50 N. / 50 C. in the center. FIVE is at the top rim and CENTS at the bottom rim, with stars seven left, six right. Struck in nickel with a plain edge.

Commentary.
This R.5 pattern is more available than most pattern issues, with two to three dozen likely existing. Like many pattern issues of the 1870s and 1880s, despite their purported unusual alloys, it is probable that many of these were actually struck on standard nickel/copper-alloy planchets of 75% nickel, 25% copper.

Physical Description.
A light patina of heather and lilac graces the remarkably pristine surfaces of this piece, with mirrored fields and thickly frosted devices adding up to superlative eye appeal. NGC Census: This piece is numerically tied as the finest graded with four other pieces at NGC, including two PR67, the present PR67 Cameo, one PR67 Ultra Cameo, and one PR67 Star Ultra Cameo. PCGS Population: One in PR67 without the Cameo designation, none finer (12/08).

Provenance.
Ex: Superior (1/1986), lot 601.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two.
(PCGS# 62127)
