1883 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1713, Pollock-1917, High R.7, PR65 NGC....
1883 Liberty Head Nickel in Aluminum1883 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1713, Pollock-1917, High R.7, PR65 NGC. Ex: Exemplar Collection. The obverse closely resembles that of the regular issue Liberty nickel, except that the stars have been replaced with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The reverse has a wreath similar to that on the Liberty Nickel, except it has been reduced in size and is bookended by stars. The inscription 33 N./67 C. is inside the wreath. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge.
Struck in nickel in the composition stated on the reverse, and also struck in a 25% nickel / 75% copper composition. Then there are about a half dozen, like this piece, struck in aluminum. Struck on a highly striated planchet. There are a few tiny lint marks scattered about, but we only see one spot and that is located in the left obverse field out from the chin of Liberty.
