Description

Rare 1942 Cent Pattern MS63
Judd-2054, Alloy Similar to 1943 Cents

1942 "One Cent" Pattern, Judd-2054, High R.7, MS63 NGC. Chief Engraver John R. Sinnock designed these cent-sized dies to strike various exotic alloys, none of which contained war-required copper. The obverse depicts a bust right of Liberty, based on the KM-198 Columbia two centavos. The reverse features a wreath and a central legend. Struck in zinc-coated steel, an alloy close to that used for the regular issue 1943 cents. The dull gray surfaces are granular and lackluster, as produced. Nicely struck and free from marks. (NGC ID# B3DA, PCGS# 62401)
