Description:
1893/2 Barber Dime, PR64
Colorful and Collectible
1893/2 10C PR64 NGC. The 1893/2 Barber dime is a coin that many collectors still pursue (and one that continues its Red Book listing), although the opinion of some numismatists has shifted away from the belief that it is a proof overdate (and also known in business strike format). Apparently NGC has switched positions and no longer recognizes the proofs. Regardless, this near-Gem is a beautiful and indubitable proof, and there is certainly something beneath the 3 that appears to be a 2. PCGS recognizes the business strike variety as PCGS #4799, although that shows a horizontal line though the 2, while the proof, as here, shows a diagonal artifact. The fields are deeply mirrored, complemented by a moderate coating of gray-rose and cobalt-blue iridescence lending a fully original appearance overall. All details are sharp and square as expected on a proof example. A fleeting opportunity for the Barber dime specialist.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
