Description

Richly Toned 1841 Original Half Cent, PR63 Brown PCGS

1841 1/2 C Original PR63 Brown PCGS. Breen-1, R.6. Die State III, with a slender die crack along the upper left obverse border. The 1841 Half Cent is the second date in a series of proof-only issues that ended in 1849, when business strike production resumed. Like the other proof issues from the 1840s, the 1841 is divided into Original and Restrike varieties, which are promptly distinguished by the size and shape of the wreath berries. Originals have large, round berries, and the Restrikes feature smaller, pellet-shaped berries. This needle-sharp and attractively preserved specimen displays deep ocean-blue, apple-green, and rose-violet hues when rotated beneath a light. Encapsulated in a prior generation green label PCGS holder. Population: 7 in 63, 8 finer (5/04).

Another major house refused the work stating it was too unique for the artist. Heritage saw that as an advantage!
