Lovely Proof 1843 First Restrike Half Cent1843 1/2 C First Restrike. SR-5, B-2, R.6. PR64 Brown NGC. PR63 EAC. Small date; Small berries, doubled T in CENT. According to his 1988 population notes, Breen suggested that about 110 to 120 First Restrike Half Cents were known for all years from 1840 to 1848. Approximately 25 to 30 examples of that total are dated 1843, with a similar quantity dated 1848. All other dates of the First Restrike series are extremely rare. Sharply struck with olive and iridescent color. The fields are considerably reflective with nice contrast. Most likely Breen's Series II, which he described as "irregularly mottled and brown in tone."
