Scarce Proof 1847 Second Restrike Half Cent1847 1/2 C Second Restrike. SR-24, B-3, High R.5. PR64 Brown NGC. PR63 EAC. Medium date; Small berries, file marks at RICA. Number 7 of 30 examples listed by Richard Coleman in his Monograph of Second Restrike Proof Half Cents. Walter Breen commented that most of these Second Restrikes were made for customers of coin dealer William Idler, after they missed acquiring examples of the First Restrike. His source for this statement is unidentified, but if such a source exists, it is probably from a 19th century coin dealer "house organ," or possibly it is a commentary from Steve Nagy. The reverse is rotated a few degrees clockwise. Sharply struck with medium olive-brown surfaces and considerable lilac color, faded from original mint red.
