Choice Proof 1849 Small Berries Half Cent, Nearly Full Red Color1849 1/2 C Restrike PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. B-2, High R.6. Although business strike Half Cents were struck in 1849, they had a Large Date. The Small Dates are proofs, and are very rare. The proofs are classified into Originals, which have large berries on the wreath, and Restrikes, which feature small berries. Two or three proof Large Date Half Cents are also known. The present specimen is dominated by luminous orange-gold color, although the obverse has a couple of tiny toning flecks and a faint stain is centered above the A in HALF. A tick near Liberty's ear serves as a pedigree. Population: 4 in 64, 1 finer (9/03). (#1306) (PCGS# 1306)
