Beautiful Proof 1855 Half Cent1855 1/2 C PR64 Brown NGC. B-1, C-1, R.1. High R.5 as a proof. As there is only one known die variety for all half cents dated 1855, including both coins struck for circulation and others struck as proofs, we can make an assumption that all of these were probably struck in or very near the time of issue. This precludes the necessity of determining whether this is an original or restrike. Probably about 40 proof 1855 half cents are known. Walter Breen suggested 35 to 40 are known, and we feel that estimate is slightly low. This example has excellent chestnut brown surfaces with pale blue toning. Traces of original orange mint color may be seen on the reverse. (#1326) (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 26ZW, PCGS# 1326)
