Proof 1856 Coronet Half Cent, Original B-1 Die Variety1856 1/2 C PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. B-1, R.7. The diagnostic reverse rust pit on the I in UNITED is readily evident under a loupe. This evenly toned, orange-brown example is uncommonly blemish-free for the assigned grade. We do, however, note a well concealed spot on the obverse at the E in LIBERTY, but this feature is anything but outwardly distracting. Sharply struck. The first generation PCGS holder is cracked on the obverse, and some foreign matter appears to be in the slab with the coin on the reverse. A definite candidate for re-holdering.
