Lovely, Deeply Mirrored Near-Gem 1857 Proof Half Cent1857 1/2 C PR64 Brown NGC. B-2, R.4 as a proof. Proofs of this year were produced using what Breen refers to as "Reverse C of 1856." It is most easily identifiable by doubling on the T in CENT. All proof half cents are rare, and the final-year 1857 is no exception. This is a splendid, deeply mirrored example that is lightly hairlined and each side displays lovely autumn leaves toning. The only speck of carbon we could see is a tiny spot by star 13.(#1332) (Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 26ZY, PCGS# 1332)
