Elusive 1836 First Restrike Half Cent PR66 Brown

1836 1/2 C First Restrike, Reverse of 1836 PR66 Brown NGC. B-2, Unlisted in Cohen, Low R.6. According to Breen, these elusive restrikes were produced from the original dies and can be differentiated from the originals by stronger detail at the rims and by a slight bulging from the obverse die. About 20 specimens are believed to exist, although several of these are permanently impounded in museums. While receiving a brown color designation, this beautifully preserved, well mirrored specimen maintains a generous amount of cherry-red color in the protected areas of the obverse. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (8/04).(#1207) (Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 223B, PCGS# 1207)
