Original, Proof-Only 1836 Half Cent1836 1/2 C PR63 Brown PCGS. B-1, Low R.6. The final issue in the Classic half cent series, the 1836 was produced solely in proof format. This example is one of the originals with large berries in the reverse wreath and no evidence of die buckling in the center of the obverse. This is a pleasingly original example with deeply set, olive-brown toning. The devices are fully struck with crisp detail in the centers and over the borders. The latter, however, are not squared, as are those on the first restrikes. In his 1983 book on half cents, Breen lists 35 examples of this die marriage, one of which is impounded in the Smithsonian Institution and four of which are impaired from circulation.
