1903 G$1 MCKIN
Incredibly Well Preserved 1903 Louisiana Purchase/McKinley Gold Dollar, PR 641903 G$1 Louisiana Purchase/McKinley PR 64 PCGS. This coin was previously offered as lot 7518 in our 1999 Chicago ANA Sale, where it was described as: "Only 100 brilliant proofs were struck of each 1903 commemorative gold dollar and the vast majority of these pieces have been mishandled over the years. In contrast, a careful collector certainly preserved this lovely piece that we count among the nicest survivors of this issue. This variety depicts the recently assassinated President William McKinley, who approved the Louisiana Purchase Exposition that was held in St. Louis in 1904. The devices display a thin veil of mint frost that distinguishes them from the deeply mirrored fields. With a crisp strike, this choice piece is one or two wispy hairlines away from a gem designation. A rare opportunity for the commemorative enthusiast whose collection goes beyond the normal pale." Population: 9 in 64, 16 finer (11/99).
