Description:
1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR53
Snow-3 Dies
1856 1C PR53 NGC. CAC. Snow-3. High Leaves Reverse. This coin should properly be labeled AU53 rather than PR53 (NGC will designate no 1856 Flying Eagle cents as Mint State) as it is an example of the "Mint State" Snow-3 die pairing, showing repunching at the left side of the 5 in the date and strike doubling to the right side of all four digits in the date. There is no trace of prooflike surface on the medium milk-chocolate surfaces, and neither the strike nor the rims show proof characteristics. The surfaces are largely free of mentionable contact save for a small diagonal mark in the left obverse field, above the eagle's wing. A nice example of this popular and sought-after key variety.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 227A, PCGS# 2037)
