Description:
Premium Gem Proof 1863 Gold Dollar
Contrasted Coin in Green Label Holder
1863 G$1 PR66 PCGS. CAC. An extremely small mintage of just 50 proof gold dollars was accomplished in 1863, and likely some of those coins went unsold and were melted after the close of the year. Probably no more than 35 examples were actually distributed, and only 18-24 specimens remain extant today.
The coin offered here is the single finest certified at either of the leading grading services. Although not designated as a Cameo, this coin shows definite elements of contrast between the sharply detailed design elements and the brightly mirrored fields. No mentionable distractions are evident, and eye appeal is extraordinary. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (11/12).
