Description:
Uncommon 1882 Deep Cameo Gem Proof Dollar
1882 G$1 PR65 Deep Cameo ANACS. Of the 125 proof gold dollars struck, it is generally thought that somewhere between 45 and 55 pieces have survived. Gold specialist David Akers (1975) wrote of surviving specimens that " ... an abnormally high percentage ... are not particularly choice." The Deep Cameo Gem that we offer in this lot, therefore, is a very uncommon appearance; such a piece may not come available on the market again for some time. The overall apricot-gold coloration displays a gold on "black" background when the coin is viewed directly from above. The design elements are well impressed, further enhancing the eye appeal of the piece. Several minuscule ticks are evenly distributed throughout the fields on both sides.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25ES, PCGS# 97632)
