1884 Gold Dollar, PR671884 G$1 PR67 PCGS. CAC. Semicontrasted on the obverse, not uncommon for this high-mintage (1,006 pieces) later proof gold dollar issue, though the pale yellow-gold reverse displays full frost-and-mirrors. The detail and preservation are both magnificent, with only a small fault appearing off the base of the U in UNITED. While the issues of the 1880s are popular entry-points for proof gold collectors, an elite Superb Gem such as the present gold dollar is in the province of the connoisseur, whether established or emerging. PCGS has graded five non-Cameo examples as PR67 and none numerically finer (11/12).
