Description:

Cameo PR66 1886 Gold Dollar
1886 G$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. While the official mintage of proof gold dollars in 1886 was 1,016 specimens, Q. David Bowers suggests a surviving population of 100 to 140 pieces in A Guide Book of Gold Dollars, writing, "Proofs are much less available than the generous mintage figure suggests." Condition rarity is also in play with a coin so fine as this Premium Gem specimen, a bounteously mirrored lemon-yellow example with sharp and frosty devices jutting out from the fields. This well-preserved and gorgeous specimen is tied for numerically finest among Cameo coins in the PCGS Population Report (1/11).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25EW, PCGS# 87636)
