Description:
Finest Certified 1886 Gold Dollar, PR67 PCGS
1886 G$1 PR67 PCGS. This is a Superb Gem proof with amazing color. Both the obverse and the reverse have rich honey-gold mirrors intermingled with light amber. Extremely sharp with all letters of LIBERTY boldly defined. Some tiny lint marks and other minuscule surface flaws are strictly limited to pre-striking planchet imperfections and do not affect the grade in any manner. Original planchets, even when polished prior to striking proof coins, were far from perfectly smooth. The majority of these tiny surface marks in the planchet were eliminated in the striking process, however, some still remained. In addition, tiny pieces of lint would adhere to the dies when workmen (or workwomen) would wipe the dies with a cloth to remove particles that adhered to the dies during the coinage process. Of course, wiping the dies often left tiny pieces of lint behind, and these small lint remnants would then be transferred to the surface of the finished coin. The finest 1886 gold dollar certified by both of the major grading services (3/06).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25EW, PCGS# 7636)
