Select Proof 1887 Gold Dollar With Alloy Spots1887 PR 64 NGC. Considered one of the more available proof dates, with a mintage of 1,043 pieces produced, 1887 gold dollars are actually not as frequently encountered as one might imagine when first strike business strikes are factored out from the numbers of purported proofs sold over the years. This is a nicely reflective example that shows only the slightest hairlining in the fields. On this coin the primary deterrent to a higher grade lies in the large alloy spots splashed across the obverse. Population: 3 in 64, only 4 finer (4/95).
