Description:
Finest Certified Deep Cameo 1888 Gold Dollar, PR64
1888 G$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. From a paltry original mintage of 1,079 pieces (many of which may have been melted as unsold) comes this richly colored, orange-gold example. More deeply set green-gold shades are evident at indirect angles, but even a casual glance reveals needle sharp striking definition over every design element. There is a little bit of haziness and a few wispy hairlines, but the surfaces are expectantly distraction-free for the PR64 level of preservation. The 1888 is not quite as rare as the preceding proof Gold Dollar. Nevertheless, it is an elusive coin when viewed in the wider context of U.S. numismatics with no more than 165 coins believed extant. (NGC ID# 2B9B, PCGS# 97638)
