1836 1/2 C, BN
1836 Original Proof Half-Cent1836 PR 45 PCGS. Original. Low R.6. As Breen points out, the originals are often confused with First Restrikes and can be told apart by the rims on the originals (less distinct than on the restrikes) and buckling of the die on the restrikes. The dark brown-olive surfaces show minimal wear from handling and no distinctive marks. A tiny carbon spot is noted in the field near the juncture of the neck and throat of Liberty, another is to the right of star 7, and finally a spot is wedged between star 13 and the lowest hair curl.
A note written on the back of the flip that accompanies the coin indicates this piece was purchased from a Robert Batchelder sale, 6/73, for $1,450. (NGC ID# 223B, PCGS# 1207)
