1848 1/2 C RESTRIKE, RB
1848 First Restrike Half Cent1848 Restrike PR 63 Red and Brown PCGS. First Restrike. Distinguished by doubling on the right side of the T in CENT and ribbon. Somewhere between 12 and 18 examples are believed to still exist of this rare proof restrike. Slate-gray patina is seen over most of each side with small portions of flaming red surrounding the outer devices. Curiously, the central portions of each side are weakly struck, but there is absolutely no doubt about this coin's proof status.
Purchased by the consignor from Joe Flynn, 12/73, for $725. (PCGS# 1300)
