1911 $5 PR64 NGC....
Exceptional, Choice Proof 1911 Half Eagle1911 $5 PR64 NGC. After the matte finish of 1908 was resumed in 1911, 139 proofs were struck in that year. However, the number of available specimens is far less than one might believe. It has been reported that perhaps only two dozen proofs still exist, but we believe the number to be closer to 40-45 pieces. The surfaces exude a warm honey-gold color with thousands of facets in the matte finish that have their own individual sparkle. An especially attractive matte proof Five Dollar Indian that has the darker matte finish similar to the 1908, but differing somewhat in hue. If one angles the coin just so under a light there are a few tiny shiny spots that can be seen, but overall this is a very pleasing example of this rare proof issue.(#8542) (Registry values: N4719) (PCGS# 8542)
