Delightful PR66 1910 'Roman Gold' Quarter Eagle1910 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. The mintage figure of 682 coins seems to bear no relation to reality: This issue is seen far less often than the 1908 pieces, despite a recorded proof emission three times as large. Were many melted? The delightful greenish-gold surfaces show to maximum advantage the "Roman gold" finish that the Mint employed in 1909 and 1910, much lighter, more satiny and brilliant than the matte proofs usually seen in 1908. A well-struck and near-pristine piece, singularly free from impairments and appearing conservatively graded. Census: 30 in 66, 11 finer (12/06).
