Description

Superb Gem Proof 1913 Indian Quarter Eagle

1913 $2 1/2 PR67 NGC. The 1912 and 1913 proof quarter eagles have the same general appearance with finely grained matte surfaces consisting of microscopic facets that create a satiny appearance. This example has pale yellow-gold color with exceptional surfaces. It is a Superb Gem that approaches the finest available quality for the date. A few faint hairlines are evident, but these are the only blemishes that prevent an even higher grade for this example. The proof production was limited to just 165 coins, and less than half of those still survive, with the total population estimated between 60 and 75 coins. Census: 9 in 67, 2 finer (7/06).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 289M, PCGS# 7962)
