Description:
1821 N-1 Proof Cent/The Norweb Specimen
1821 PR 63 Brown PCGS. N-1, High R.1 as a variety, R.6 as a proof. EAC graded PR 55. Sharper by five points, but long ago this cent was cleaned and has since retoned to an iridescent dark steel-blue and brown color with reddish-brown tones in the fields, and a brighter red around a few reverse devices. A fine scratch is well hidden in the hair above the E in LIBERTY, and in the central area of the reverse are a few faint abrasions. Well struck except on stars 3 through 11. Quite attractive.
Ex: John P. Lyman (S.H. Chapman, 11/13), lot 459; Henry Chapman; Dr. Christian A. Allenburger (B. Max Mehl M.B.S.#111, 3/48), lot 777; R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (A. Kosoff M.B.S.#76, 12/52), lot 729a; Mrs. R. Henry Norweb (B&M, 11/88), lot 2881; Hanks and Associates; Kenneth Alterman (B&M, 1/95), lot 1038. (NGC ID# 226R, PCGS# 1949)
