Description:
PCGS 1898 PR 64. A mesmerizing two-toned proof that has thick mint frost on the devices that provides a sharp cameo contrast against the unfathomable depth of the watery proof fields. There are a few tiny hairlines in the fields, but these are of little consequence and detract only slightly when one considers the overall eye appeal of this magnificent proof gold coin. Estimates of survivors range from a low of 25-30 pieces (Akers) to as many as 30-36 (Breen) from the original mintage of only 75 coins. Population: 9 in 64, 5 finer. (NGC ID# 26EK, PCGS# 9114)
