1906 $20 PR63 PCGS....
Attractive PR63 1906 Double Eagle1906 $20 PR63 PCGS. Only 94 proofs were produced of the 1906 double eagle, and as with most other proof twenties attrition has taken a high toll over the years. That being said, there appear to be a higher number of survivors of this date than others with estimates ranging from a low of 40-50 pieces (Akers) to as many as 50-60 (Breen). This is a lightly hairlined example that shows some hazy reddish patina on the obverse. Curiously, the striking details are not complete over the highpoints, which may have contributed to the PR63 grade rather than any noticeable surface defects. Population: 10 in 63, 23 finer (11/04).(#9122) (Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 26EU, PCGS# 9122)
