Description

Flashy PR64 1907 Liberty Double Eagle

1907 $20 PR64 PCGS. Widely recognized and collected by numismatists as the final year of the long-lived Coronet design, the Philadelphia Mint retired the Liberty design in 1907 with a mintage of 1.4 million business strikes and 78 proofs. While the former are understandably common in today's market, the latter are a significant rarity with perhaps only 30-35 pieces extant. This is a very flashy, deeply mirrored proof striking that shows little or no mint frost on the devices. When angled just right beneath a light one can see an angling hairline across the face of Liberty, this being the primary deterrent to a full-blown Gem grade. Population: 16 in 64, 5 finer (10/03).(#9123) (NGC ID# 26EV, PCGS# 9123)

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
