Undeniably Rare 1884 Eagle, PR 65 Cameo NGC1884 PR 65 Cameo NGC. Similar in rarity to the 1877, 1878, and 1879, the 1884 boasts an extant population of a mere 7-10 pieces. But this poor rate of survival should be expected for an 1880s proof eagle with an original mintage of only 45 coins. In fact, the rarity of this issue is further underscored by the fact that neither F.C.C. Boyd nor J.F. Bell owned an example. A stunning coin, the frosty devices appear to float atop the deep, watery fields. Both sides are orange-gold in color with a single identifying contact mark in the obverse field inside and below star 2.
