Description:
Remarkable Gem Proof 1895 Liberty Eagle
1895 $10 PR65 PCGS. From the small mintage of only 56 coins, Breen estimates only 18-20 pieces survive, Akers shares a similar opinion. Considering the probability of resubmissions, current population figures bear this out as both services combined have certified 51 examples. Both sides present a pronounced cameo appearance with deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices. This one is housed in an older PCGS holder with the green insert, thus not designated as "cameo" by PCGS. Even close examination with a loupe fails to disclose any marks, spots, or lines that are usable as pedigree markers. Currently, this is tied with six others as the single finest certified by PCGS (11/04), NGC has seen none in higher grades. An unmistakable opportunity for the proof gold specialist. Part of an 1895 proof set, the other pieces from the set are offered individually throughout the catalog.(#8835) (Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 28G2, PCGS# 8835)
